Donating grain is a high-impact way to support Baptist Homes and minimize a farmer’s tax liability. This article explains a final donor checklist in gifting grains. Most importantly, to preserve intended philanthropic benefits, gifts of grain should be structured so that Baptist Homes owns and controls the commodity before any sale, rather than the donor.
Donor Checklist to Donate Grain
- Confirm eligibility and implications with your professional tax advisor.
- Notify Baptist Homes and the elevator or co-op of your intent to transfer title.
- Ensure that Baptist Homes is recorded as owner before any sale.
- Obtain a receipt acknowledging quantity, commodity type, and date.
- Retain delivery tickets, settlement sheets, and acknowledgments for tax reporting.
Gifts of grain can strengthen Baptist Homes and align with the farmers’ stewardship values. For more information or questions, contact Ron Mackey (rdmackey@bhhm.org) or Nick Davis (ndavis@bhhm.org) at 573-546-2709.
